I apologize first off for the somewhat sketchy nature of this scan. HOWEVER, considering I had to scan it in three peices and put them together (because I drew it on large on newsprint) I think it turned out great. Unfortunately, the scan ate a LOT of the details. :/ I'm going to see if I can hunt down a bigger scanner and try to get a better version.
No matter what ANYONE says, this IS a final deviation. I stick to that, dangit. It's finished and pretty!
I also must note that this style was infuriatingly hard to grasp at first. I tried drawing it in my usual style, but the character refused to come out properly. It was then that I figured these particular characters demanded a more artful, and difficult, style before they would fully reveal themselves to me. And Wah-la! It worked!
For those curious, this is a creation of a friend of mine. He had a dream about them, and developed it from there. The Uhuli people were originally human, but the Uhuli Tree transformed them with its Uhuli-Ba'al Occulus--the giant eye located near the upper reaches of its enormous trunk. Once they are changed, they are given Uhuli names, which always end in -Kun.
The people were transformed to serve in its mighty army, lead by the Raccoon Uhuli, Meta-Kun. Unlike the others, Meta-Kun was a reverse Uhuli, with a raccoon base and given human qualities.
In the original dream, there was Rei-Kun and another (who's name I was never told, more I think about it), who somehow disobeyed the Uhuli Tree and began a war against Meta-Kun.
ANYWAY! This character here was an addition to the story after S-san (the creator) woke up and started to expand it.
I give you Uhuli Li-Kun.
Hopefully I can get Rei-Kun and Meta-Kun drawn soon. ^^ These people are FUN to draw. Heck, maybe I'll even draw the Uhuli Tree too, if I have the time.
Very detailed and extremely well drawn. The hair and clothing caught my attention. This is a very interesting character with an equally interesting stroy. The style reminds me of Yoshitaka Amano, character designer for the older Final Fantasy games. Maybe I should give that style a try someday... Anyway, excellent work!

It's sad that I'm JUST now getting back to these comments. X_X Aiee, bad me.
The style WAS actually inspired by Yoshitaka's works, plus a few alterations to fit my own style. (s'funny considering I used to HATE his art years ago, and now I wish desperately I could emulate it)
If you want to give it a try, all I have to say is take it in steps. ;; It's a long, LONG process and requires lots of patience and really flicky wrists. X3
